2nd Grade Artwork

See what our creative 2nd graders have been making at home!

ART AT HOME

winter self portraits

2nd graders used mirrors and close observation to draw a realistic Self Portrait with details to communicate the winter season.

Snowflakes with symmetry

2nd grade students explored the concept of symmetry while printing these beautiful snowflakes. A variety of stamps like old marker tops, pieces of cardboard and pencil erasers, were used to create a variety of shapes. Thanks to our Square 1 Art fundraiser, students also had metallic markers, metallic paper and sequins to add lots of sparkle to their snowflakes!

The quilt story

2nd Grade students have been learning about quilts in the art room. We read The Quilt Story by Tony Johnston and Tomie de Paolo. Students thought about something special they own that makes them feel better when they are sick or sad and included that item in their self portrait.

winter bird paintings

2nd Grade students studied the painting 'Breakfast of the Birds' by Gabrielle Munter and used it as the inspiration for their own winter painting. Students used different directions  (vertical, horizontal and diagonal) of thick and thin lines to create the branches of their trees. Details like birds, berries, snow and wind added the finishing touches to these painted masterpieces.

OWL sculptures

2nd grade students learned about Relief Sculptures and texture as they created these 3-D clay owls. Students used clay tools to stamp feathers and important details like the eyes and the talons.
